Q: What is freedom of expression for yOu?
Q: why is freedom of expression important ?
q: Do you have rights as a journalist? what are they? what are the limitations?
A: Ya.

Q: do you think every journalist has the same amount of rights?
A: Ya.
Q: what is freedom of expression to you?
A: Freedom of expression to me is expressing yourself without the fear of doing it.
Q: what do you think is the most IMPORTANT way of expressing yourself?
A: I think it depends on the person because every person has a different method of expressing himself/herself. For example, producers express themselves by making videos and journalists express themselves by writing.
q: Do you think freedom of expression is important?
A: I think freedom of expression is important because it lets us know others' opinions and feelings.
q: Do you have any rights as a producer?
A: Yes, but not that much. You see, a producer has the right to make a show whenever he or she likes, but we need money to make the show. Where does the money come from? The broadcast station. How does the broadcast station get the money? By showing good and entertaining shows on their channel so the producers have to think about what the viewers like so the producers don't have that much freedom to make what he wants.
q: Do you know any incidents where yours or others rights were VIOLATED?
A: No, there wasn't.
q: do you think your job is risky? why?
A: Yes, it is because if we do something that annoys one of our sponsors they might stop sponsoring our shows leading to lower and lower profits.
q: what are the advantages and disadvantages of freedom of expression?
A: The advantage is we get to know others opinion. For example when you vote. The disadvantage is that it can go a little out of hand. For example when there is a demonstration. You can't just shoot a gun, destroy public property or burn cars only to express yourself. Freedom of expression is one of your rights but there are still limitations.
q: do you know any ORGANISATIONS or communities that protect a producer's rights?
A: No, I don't know any organizations or communities.

interview with dana iswara, ex reporter, rcti, seputar indonesia

Q: what is freedom of expression for you?
A: It is a way to voice your thoughts and ideas with no restriction from other people.
q: do you think freedom of expression is important? why?
A: Very important because without it, it would be like a communist country in which only the government has the say on every aspects of life. On the other hand, for example, you want to improve the education system but because there is no freedom of expression you cannot say it you know.
q: do you have any rights as a reporter? what are they?
A: Yes. Yes I do. Of course to my source person, I can ask questions related to the issue that she/he is, for example a minister, minister Airlangga is the minister of industry, so if I go to interview him, I have the right to ask him questions that are related to industry, to his job, like that. But I, must also respect his/her privacy. For example, if I ask him for an interview about his job, then, during the interview, not all of a sudden I ask him about his, for example his personal things, you know like gossips maybe around him or around his family.
q: do you think your job is risky? why?
A: My job is risky of course. Especially when things are not in normal condition. When I was reporting in 1998, when president Soeharto was tumbled, you know, and I was out reporting, that was very risky, it was also very dangerous because everywhere cars are burnt down, showrooms are burnt down and I was out in the street and I could get killed. At the same areas, they had more reporters. They are in the dangerous zone as well. That was very dangerous.
q: what are the advantages and disadvantages of freedom of expression?
A: The advantages of course like I said before, you can convey whatever thoughts and ideas they have, really. People listen to you as you listen to other people who also want to convey their ideas but I think these advantages are, sometimes when you think that you have freedom, then you think people have to agree with you and if they don't you get confused. Like you know, nowadays there are many demonstrations out there and they can get out of control if want they want are not heard well by government. So I think that is the disadvantage.
q: do you know any ORGANISATIONS or communities that protect a journalist rights?
A: Yes, its AJI, thats Aliansi Jurnalis Indenpen and there's also PWI, Persatuan Wartawan Indonesia.
